Meet the Guys Behind the Best Food Trucks on the Road!

During a recent visit to San Antonio, I had the opportunity to visit Cruising Kitchens. I toured the facility, met some awesome people, and saw some of the baddest ass food trucks ever made.

Meet the Guys Behind the Best Food Trucks on the Road!

Prior to launching San Antonio-based Cruising Kitchens, CEO Cameron Davies built custom vehicles for professional athletes and others who had the resources to make those projects happen. But in 2010, he had the opportunity to design and build his first food truck.

In Search of the Real Rosie the Riveter

During the second world war, women stepped up in unprecedented numbers to work the factory jobs vacated by men who were fighting overseas. These unsung heroes became collectively known as “Rosie the Riveter.” At least two works of art from the wartime period became associated with Rosie – and one of them has become an iconic image for the feminist movement. Several women claimed to be the one who inspired the illustration. Who is the real Rosie? The journey to find the answer to this question took me to some unexpected places and unearthed some incredible history that should not be forgotten.

In Search of the Real Rosie the Riveter

Do you remember Rosie? She was a young woman in her mid-20s when the U.S. was pulled into World War II in 1941. The iconic poster of her flexing her bicep and clenching her fist has captured the imagination of millions of patriots for more than 75 years.

A Fresh Voice in the Veteran Community? Meet Dead Reckoning Collective

Dead reckoning is a navigational technique traditionally associated with charting the course for a ship at sea without the use of sophisticated instruments. However, former Army guys Keith Dow and Tyler Carroll realized that, in a metaphorical sense, dead reckoning wayfinding can be useful for soldiers who face the challenges of transitioning from military life to the civilian world. The pair founded the Dead Reckoning Collective, a media company that encourages veterans to harness the writer and poet inside, and provides an outlet for publishing these creative works. In this interview, Dow and Carroll talk about the origins of DRC and highlight a few of their recent projects.

Poppin’ Caps: The Evolution of Veteran-Owned Bottle Breacher

Former Navy SEAL, Elijah Crane, is one directed guy. While still active with the SEAL teams, his younger brother – a Marine helicopter pilot – gave Eli a very cool makeshift gift: a bottle opener made form an inert .50 caliber cartridge. Crane realized the design could be vastly improved and heard his calling.

While transitioning out of active duty he and his wife launched a business out their garage that aimed to mass-produce these tacticool “bottle breachers.” However, it didn’t take them long to realize they’d need a serious cash injection to grow the business and keep up with demand. Mr. and Mrs. Crane pitched the idea to the reality TV show Shark Tank. They were selected as finalists and walked away with a substantial sum of venture capital to invest in the business. In this story, I talk to Eli about his company, how he overcame obstacles in both his business and military careers, and what lies ahead for Bottle Breacher.
